Authorities in Marietta, Georgia said Monday that the body of a missing woman was found in a pond days after she left a local assisted living facility.
Patricia Miele, 89, was last seen alive at the Greenwood Assisted Living and Memory Care facility on Friday.
The new resident was experiencing memory loss when she left the facility that had no surveillance cameras.
On Monday, the body of the missing woman was found floating in a pond at a Kennesaw cemetery, about a half-mile away from the facility.
“As a police officer, it made the investigation incredibly difficult not having any physical evidence that she even left the building,” Police Spokesman Chuck McPhilamy said.
“We searched the facility five separate times. We searched the grounds roughly twelve times. We did a grid search that included officers from multiple neighboring agencies as well as National Park rangers. Multiple K-9s were deployed.”
Investigators believe that foul play is not involved in the death.
