A Greensboro Police officer was gunned down while responding to reports of an armed person at a local supermarket Monday morning.
Officer Michael Horan was fatally shot while responding to a call about a “man with a firearm” inside a Food Lion in Greensboro.
The Duplin County Sheriff’s Office said the gunman was arrested following a high-speed chase.
“The circumstances of what led to the shooting are currently being investigated,” said Greensboro Assistant Police Chief MJ Harris.
Harris said the fallen officer was sworn in with the department in 2018 after serving 18 years in the U.S. Coast Guard.
“He was an excellent officer. He had an outstanding reputation inside the department and community.”
