Fergus Falls news, Minnesota news.

A Minnesota woman is behind bars after she allegedly unintentionally abandoned her grandchild in a ditch on a rainy day, police said.

Anastasia Elizabeth Vaughn was reportedly drinking alcohol and watching the infant on Tuesday evening when she left her Fergus Falls home.

A man called police at 4:30 p.m. to report that a woman was walking near Cedar Park Loop without shoes while carrying an infant.

After he stopped to ask if she was OK, the woman said yes and ran away into the woods.

The man followed her to find out that she had dumped the baby in a ditch.

“[She] seemed confused and said she was looking for a child but was unable to answer specific questions,” a deputy reported.

“She said she did not remember what happened and when asked how much she had drunk she would not say,” court documents read.
