Ohio mom dies after trying to stop carjackers from stealing vehicle with sleeping son inside

Authorities in Columbus, Ohio said a mother was killed while trying to stop carjackers from stealing her vehicle where her 6-year-old son slept.

The incident occurred early Thursday as Alexa Stakely retrieved her son from a babysitter’s home.

The single mother had just finished her second job as a waitress when she left the sleeping boy in the car and returned to the babysitter’s home to find an item.

Police said two males tried to steal the 2022 Honda SUV before Stakely noticed her car moving and ran toward it in an attempt to stop the carjacking.

    The two suspects ran past Stakely as she layed unconscious, jumped a fence, and vanished into an apartment complex.

    Stakely, who worked as a speech and language pathologist for a local school district, died from her injuries about seven hours after the incident; her son was unharmed.
