A bloodied Houston man rang his neighbor’s doorbell on Wednesday morning, leading police to a gruesome murder scene.
34-year-old Chance Zane Chavez reportedly told the neighbor something tragic happened in his home before the body of his wife was discovered in a bedroom.
Police responded to the scene at around 7:45 a.m. and found Chavez covered in blood with his hands up in the doorway of the home.
Investigators described the husband as incoherent. His wife was found beaten to death with blunt objects, they said.
“It saddens me because she was extremely friendly,” a neighbor said.
“They didn’t get into arguments or anything like that in front of us. They never looked like there was tension. There never looked like something could be wrong.”
Chavez was taken into the custody of a mental health unit.
