Authorities in New York City are investigating after the decomposing bodies of a woman and child were discovered inside a Brooklyn apartment on Wednesday.
Police responded to reports of a foul odor emanating from an NYCHA’s Unity Plaza Houses apartment on Dumont Avenue near Hinsdale Street in East New York just after 2 p.m.

Once at the scene, the officers discovered the bodies of a 33-year-old woman and a 7-year-old boy.
Sources said that the remains were found in sheets on a bed. Investigators couldn’t immediately confirm whether the woman was the child’s mother.
The medical examiner’s office will identify the victim and determine a cause of death.
