The National Weather Service has issued a tsunami warning Saturday after an undersea volcanic eruption took place in the Pacific Ocean earlier in the morning.

An advisory, second-highest alert level out of four, was issued for North America’s Western Coast that includes California, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, British Columbia, and Alaska.

“The tsunami will bring large and dangerous rip currents to all Southern California beaches today,” the NWS said in a tweet.

The advisory noted that although there will be no risk of inundation, “a series of dangerous waves” would hit the coastal areas for hours.

It warns people to “stay out of water, away from beaches and waterways” and move inland. The first wave would reach the Washington coasts shortly after 8:30 a.m. PT Saturday.

“Larger waves may continue to impact the coast for hours after the initial wave,” the advisory added.
