A New York City teen was busted Sunday after he brought a loaded handgun to school premises where a basketball practice was being held.
Officers with John Adams High School detected the loaded .38-caliber pistol inside the 16-year-old boy’s backpack as it was being screened at 10:30 a.m.
The juvenile was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon.
Since in-person classes resumed in the fall of 2021, New York authorities have seized eight guns in schools, only one gun was recovered during the same period of last year.
The involved students had often described carrying guns as a self-protection measure. None of the weapons have been fired on school grounds.
