Student, 12, caught with slingshot, rocks, and 4 knives in his backpack at South Florida middle school

A South Florida middle school student was found carrying a slingshot, rocks, and four knives in his backpack Thursday.

The 12-year-old boy brought the items to Walter C. Young Middle School in Pembroke Pines. He was caught after a school’s resource officer heard students talking about the slingshot.

  • “Parents, please take this moment to speak with your children about the severe consequences of bringing weapons of any kind onto school property,” Pembroke Pines Police said in a statement.

    “These are serious charges and may result in an arrest, regardless of the age of the suspect.”

    It comes on the same day that a 15-year-old student was arrested at a Longwood high school after writing threatening messages and Friday’s date on bathroom walls.
