Woman pulled out of car at brink of Niagara Falls had driven into water ‘intentionally’: Police

A New York woman was pronounced dead Wednesday afternoon shortly after she was pulled out of her car that had plunged into the Niagara River and detectives now say she entered water intentionally.

“At this point in the investigation, entry into the water appears to be an intentional act,” New York State Park Police Capt. Christopher Rola said.

  • The US Coast Guard was deployed to the scene after police received several 911 calls about a submerged car, about 100 to 150 feet from the brink of the American Falls.

    A diver was lowered on a rope from the Coast Guard helicopter before reaching the passenger door of the vehicle and hoisting the lifeless woman to land.

    The rescue operation was caught on a video that widely circulated on social media. The victim was said to be in her 60s.
