Dismembered woman remains found by hikers in Catoctin Mountain Park identified as 21-year-old Maryland resident

The human remains found last month in Catoctin Mountain Park, Maryland were those of a 21-year-old state resident, according to authorities.

Joanna Michelle Amaya’s body was found on June 12, partially dismembered and in advanced stages of decomposition by a group of hikers, local news outlets said.

    She was wearing a black track suit, red Nike shoes, and a wrist guard. Amaya’s Puma handbag was also discovered near her remains.

    The FBI is investigating the Gaithersburg resident’s death and asking anyone with information to call them at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
