Ca. Police identify sets of human remains found in Mojave Desert as LA woman who was never reported missing

California authorities said this week that they positively identified three sets of human remains found across the Mojave Desert as a 24-year-old woman.

Los Angeles resident Stephanie Ashley Bonilla was reportedly not reported missing. Her remains were found scattered throughout Frontage Road in three locations.

  • The first set of Bonilla’s remains was discovered on Jan. 9 and the last on March 17, at least two miles apart along Highway 14.

    As detectives investigate Bonilla’s death, they notified her next of kin and launched a homicide probe.

    “At this time, the case is still under investigation, and we don’t have anything else to add, other than anyone with information on this case is asked to call the Kern County Sheriff’s Office at 661-861-3110 or Secret Witness at 661-322-4040.”
