Grandma dies while rescuing grandchildren from tragic house fire in New Jersey

A New Jersey grandma and her infant granddaughter have perished in a consuming house fire that sent a part of the roof down on them early Friday morning.

The woman, in her 40s, was according to sources trying to save her grandchildren at around 3:40 a.m. from the blazing Hamilton Township home.

  • Sadly, the grandmother died along with a 10-month-old girl. Three other family members were hospitalized.

    Firefighters said that extinguishing the flames was made harder due to rainy weather. The fire partially damaged a nearby residence.
