Crash at Pittsburgh Plasma Donation Site leaves 3 fatalities, sets facility on fire

Pittsburgh authorities have identified two of the three people who were killed in a fiery crash at a local Biomat USA Center Saturday.

Among the three fatalities were two employees of the Plasma Donor Center that was hit and set ablaze by a speeding Hyundai Santa Fe at around 11:30 a.m.

They were identified as Laura Elaine Meneskie, 35, and Parveena Begum Abdul, 55. The third victim is the car’s driver.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to their families and loved ones. We are working to provide support to their families and have arranged counseling for our employees,” the company said in a statement.

  • As they worked for hours to extinguish the flames and rescue trapped victims inside the building, two firefighters and a paramedic suffered complications from smoke inhalation.

    One person was critically injured and another sustained minor injuries. The facility was severely damaged.

    “I was sitting here with my tow truck, the car had to be doing over 100 and went through the building,” a witness said.

    “The whole building started rumbling, first I thought earthquake.”
