San Diego Police couple dies in fatal crash with errant car

The married couple who perished in a wrong-way car crash Friday has been identified as two decorated San Diego Police detectives.

The accident occurred at around 10:20 a.m. Friday when an errant Honda Civic driving onto the incoming traffic crashed into the officers’ Ford Sedan.

The San Diego Police Department confirmed the deceased as Jamie Huntley-Park and her husband Ryan Park, 33 and 32 years old respectively.

“Today, my heart aches as we mourn the tragic passing of two decorated detectives. They were an incredible part of our team who helped countless San Diegans,” SDP Chief David Nisleit said.

  • San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria also mourned the senseless loss of the law enforcement pair that was off-duty at the time of the accident.

    “Jamie and Ryan spent their lives serving the city, protecting the city, and so, I express my appreciation to both of them for their service and sacrifice to the city, and to the people who live here.”

    He added: “Again, I extend my condolences on behalf of a grateful city to their families.”

    The driver of the other car also perished at the scene. An investigation has been launched to determine whether intoxication and speed caused the crash.
