Butler County news, Alabama news.

A charred vehicle with two men’s bodies was discovered in an Alabama rural area Wednesday and authorities suspect the victims may be two missing Evergreen residents who vanished one day earlier.

Butler County Sheriff Danny Bond said Thursday that the bodies were burned beyond recognition and that investigators are trying to identify them through forensic examinations.

Logging workers first spotted the burned-out car at around 10 a.m. off Mt. Pisgah Road and called 911.

He also refuted some news outlets’ reports alleging the bodies were in the car trunk and announced that the State Bureau of Investigation, the Evergreen Police Department, and Mobile Police are assisting in the investigation.

Bond said that two men have been reported missing Tuesday in Evergreen but that it was not clear if they were the dead people inside the car.

“It’s a possibility. We’re having to wait on forensics to identify them,” Bond said.
