3years ago

Jefferson County news, Alabama news.

Only two days after he disappeared, the body of a 33-year-old Alabama man has been located in a Jefferson County creek Tuesday.

The Coroner’s Office positively identified the decedent as William “Jake” McNair. He had been reported missing late Saturday.

McNair vanished after he left for a fishing trip. His worried relatives found his truck and belongings while looking for him.

  • Despite Jefferson County Sheriff’s officials’ efforts involving a helicopter and K-9 units, it was a group of kayakers that ultimately located McNair’s body floating in Valley Creek along Toadvine Road.

The volunteers spotted the corpse at about 6 p.m. Monday but darkness and the rugged terrain made it impossible for deputies to retrieve him until the next day.

McNair’s cause of death remains under investigation but no foul play is suspected at this time, police said.
