19-year-old motorcycle racer dies in tragic circuit crash during Moto3 qualifying

A promising Swiss motorcycle racer had passed away at a Florence, Italy hospital a few minutes after a tragic crash Saturday.

19-year-old Jason Dupasquier was one of three motorcyclists involved in a brutal crash during the qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix.

The two other riders, Ayumu Sasaki and Jeremy Alcoba did not sustain major injuries following the accident that unfolded near the end of the day’s session.

  • Dupasquier fell on the track and was brutally hit by his own motorcycle then that of Sasaki.

    Distraught, Alcoba told reporters that he believes he also ran over the teen’s legs as he lay motionless.

    Medical first responders rushed to Dupasquier’s side and treated him on the scene for about 30 minutes until he was ultimately airlifted to the Careggi Hospital where he died.

    “Despite the best efforts of circuit medical staff and all those subsequently attending to the Swiss rider, the hospital has announced that Dupasquier has sadly succumbed to his injuries,” a MotoGP statement read.
