Controversial dietitian, 6 others die in Tennessee flight crash

The controversial Christian dietitian Gwen Shamblin Lara, her husband, and four other passengers have perished Saturday in a car crash in Percy Priest Lake, Nashville.

The victims were abroad a private Cessna C501 jet that crashed into the lake at around 11 a.m.

Gwen and Joe Lara were pronounced dead at the scene along with Jennifer J. Martin, David L. Martin, Jessica Walters, Jonathan Walters, and Brandon Hannah.

    Lara’s church sparked controversy for allying to Christianity and weight loss in a for-profit organization that earned her a fortune.

    “This money, half of it goes to the government, the other half goes to keep it going so someone else can be helped,” she once argued.
