Elderly Arizona woman, 77, mauled to death by neighbors’ dogs; Owner charged with negligent homicide

An Arizona woman was mauled to death at her front porch when her neighbor’s Staffordshire terrier-mix dogs sneaked into her property.

The incident occurred at around 7 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of 6th Street and Broadway Road.

Maria Ruiz, 77, died at a local hospital after the four dogs attacked her. They belonged to Alexander Hernandez, 33, who was arrested and charged with negligent homicide.

  • According to the Maricopa County Animal Care and Control, Hernandez’s dogs were previously reported to authorities after several attacks on residents.

    The man was also told to fix a gate that the pooches used to escape without his knowledge. He also received license warnings.

    Hernandez admitted that his dogs were violent and would chase after neighbors.
