A disabled Brooklyn man was found dead in a trailer home this week from an apparent dog attack after he was left unattended with two family pit bulls.
The wheelchair-bounded victim, 39, was left for a few minutes inside the Dumont Avenue trailer he shared with his caretakers, Angel and Cindy, and the couple’s three dogs all under 5 years old.
“Yesterday, Angel was outside fixing his trailer, Cindy came outside for a bit. When she went back in, it was already over,” neighbor Stephen Newell said.
At around 10:25 p.m., the cerebral palsy sufferer was unresponsive with his ears “ripped off” and body covered in lacerations and bites.
“I didn’t hear the dogs; I heard Angel and Cindy screaming out here. I thought they were having a little spit-spat. Angel was collapsing on the street.”
Angel called police and followed their instructions in a bid to revive the decedent, the neighbor said. He was even trying to hold back the pouring blood.
“Cindy keeps blaming herself, but I told her it’s not her fault. They are so upset right now. Angel couldn’t sleep.”
Newell said that one of the dogs was locked in a room and was apparently not involved in the bloody attack.
“These were their family dogs, they had them for years. This is all strange; I don’t know why they would do that. The dogs knew him since they were puppies. I’m surprised.”
