‘Crisis’ in Syracuse: Second teen dies in less than a week after being stabbed during physical scuffle

A 13-year-old Syracuse, New York girl had been knifed to death during a “physical disturbance prompting Mayor Ben Walsh to call the situation a “crisis.”

The fatal stabbing occurred at the 1200 block of West Onondaga Street Monday evening. The teen died at Upstate University Hospital at around 6 p.m.

A couple of days before the murder, 15-year-old Radames Francisco was shot and killed by a 14-year-old on Friday.

  • Witnesses recalled hearing more than six shots inside the home at around 11:30 p.m. The underage suspect was charged with murder and criminal weapon possession.

    “We have lost two teenagers to acts of violence involving other teens,” Walsh said in a statement. “My prayers are with the victims and their families, as well as all those touched by these tragedies.”

    “In Syracuse right now, we have children and families in crisis. They are living in constant trauma in circumstances made worse by the stress and disruption of the last year.”

    He added: “As a community, we need to give them refuge. We need to teach our children to value their own lives and the lives of others. We must and will do more.”
