Impaired man fatally crashes car into siblings, 16 & 19, on way to birthday party

A Kentucky family is left shattered after a fatal crash that claimed the young lives of two siblings over the last weekend.

Hailey and Andrew Smith, ages 16 and 19 respectively were on their way to a birthday party on Saturday night when an intoxicated driver sharing their last name plowed into their Mazda Protégé.

30-year-old Zachary Smith allegedly crossed the center line while behind the wheel of his Ford Explorer and crashed head-on into the Protégé killing the two occupants at the scene.

    The siblings’ grieving mom said that they were headed to her home to celebrate Andrew’s birthday when the collision occurred.

    “My world is gone,” she said. “I just have to be strong for Zoey and teach her how awesome her mom was,” she added referring to Hailey’s one-year-old daughter.

    Andrew had recently graduated from high school and dreamed of owning a reptile rescue. His sister was enrolled at the Fayette County Public Schools’ Family Care Center.
