US breaks own record of new coronavirus’ infections for 2nd day in a row

More than 94,000 new coronavirus cases have been recorded in the US on Friday alone, breaking the record of the day before that had reached 91,000 reported cases according to Johns Hopkins University data.

Since the outbreak, at least 9 million Americans have contracted the novel virus and nearly 230,000 patients have succumbed to the infection.

  • The infection and fatality tolls have been rising in recent weeks and particularly in the Midwest and the South where the disease is far more aggressive with overwhelmed health care facilities.

    The situation is disturbing in the northeast where new cases are climbing drastically since the end of summer. In rural areas, the virus is spreading quickly as it happens in North Dakota where 5 percent of the population is Covid-infected.

    As of Friday, the country’s overall tally reached 9,034,295 cases as experts fear the worst with the looming flu season.
