Iowa woman fatally shoots husband, who attempted to beat her dog

An Iowa woman is behind bars after she allegedly admitted to shooting her husband to death while he tried to beat her dog.

The incident occurred at the couple’s Cedar Falls home late Wednesday when a domestic dispute escalated into a deadly shooting.

72-year-old David Alan Charlton was reportedly trying to assault his 66-year-old wife, Kimberly Ann Charlton, when the dog intervened and stopped him.

  • The husband became frustrated and left the room to retrieve his walking cane and started chasing after the dog.

    Kimberly told officers that David kept following the dog down a hallway, forcing her to grab a gun and point it at her husband’s back.

    “I’m going to shoot you if you don’t stop,” she reportedly warned David before shooting him in the back.

    David was pronounced dead at the scene. Kimberly was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
