Denton County Commissioner Bobbie Mitchell is recovering after her grandson allegedly stabbed her and her husband, killing him early Monday, police in Lewisville said.
Officers responded to the report of an assault just before 4 a.m. in the 1000 block of Springwood Drive and found Commissioner Mitchell and her husband suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Commissioner Mitchell underwent surgery and is expected to survive. Her husband, Fred, succumbed to his injuries shortly after 5 a.m.
Police arrested the couple’s grandson, 23-year-old Mitchell Blake Reinacher, at the scene. He was reportedly cooperative with officers.
Reinacher faces charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was booked into the Lewisville city jail.
The Lewisville Police Department issued a statement about the double stabbing.
“This is a deeply emotional moment for our city, and the Mayor and Chief will share official remarks regarding the investigation, the impact on our community, and the steps being taken moving forward.”
“My dear friend, colleague, and mentor Precinct 3 Commissioner Bobbie J. Mitchell has suffered a huge tragedy this morning, said Denton County Judge Andy Eads.
“I ask that you keep her and her family in your prayers as she recovers. Her beloved husband, Fred Mitchell, a longtime friend, will be greatly missed.”
