Missing woman found dead in Arizona nature preserve after ‘uncharacteristic’ disappearance

A missing hiker was found dead in a Scottsdale nature preserve in Arizona on May 22, authorities said.

Hannah Moody, 31, was last seen alive in the morning of May 21 at the Gateway Trailhead at the McDowell Sonoran Preserve.

Police described Moody’s disappearance as “unexpected and uncharacteristic” and began looking for her in the preserve after finding out that her car was still in the parking lot.

Officers on foot assisted with drones, and a Phoenix Police helicopter conducted a four-hour search on the night of May 21.

    Moody’s body was eventually found at around 12:05 p.m. by the air unit roughly 600 yards off-trail from the parking lot of the trailhead.

    Police said in a statement that “there are no obvious signs of foul play or trauma.”

    The Maricopa County Office of the Medical Examiner will determine Moody’s cause of death.
