An 8-year-old is dead and two other children were injured Tuesday afternoon after a tubing accident at a Florida lake.
Rescuers rushed to Star Lake near the Putnam-Alachua County line and learned that three children were thrown into the water off a tube.
The tube was reportedly pulled by a Sea-Doo jet ski when it struck a dock, ejecting the three children, ages 8, 10, and 11.
The 8-year-old did not survive, while the two other children were pulled out of the water and taken to a hospital.
Neighbors said the three children were visiting their grandparents’ lake house when tragedy struck.
“It’s the first time in 20 years anything like this has happened at the lake,” a resident said.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission is investigating the incident.
