Eight people were killed and 13 others jumped to safety after a hot-air balloon burst into flames in Brazil’s southern state of Santa Catarina.
Videos of the explosion showed the balloon burst into a fireball with billows of smoke emanating as it dropped to the ground.
The survivors were rushed to hospitals. It is believed that 21 people were onboard the doomed aircraft.
“We are in mourning. A tragedy had happened. We will see how it unfolds, what happened, why it happened. But the important thing now is for the state structure to do what it can,” State Gov. Jorginho Mello said.
