A Michigan teen is dead after she was fatally shot by her bowling coach at her stepfather’s home Saturday.
Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough said that 17-year-old Gwen Smith was gunned down by 33-year-old Ryne Leist, who had “made entry” into her home.
Leist then turned the gun on himself. His motive remains unclear.
The sheriff said Leist resigned from his position at the bowling alley, Forestview Lanes, a “short time period” before carrying out the murder-suicide.
He reportedly was the coach of Smith, a member of the club bowling team.
Goodnough denied that the suspect and the teen shared a romantic relationship but confirmed that there was communication between them just five days before the murder-suicide.
