Suspect takes own life after chase ends in crash that killed innocent man in Houston

Authorities in Houston said that a suspect took his own life after he allegedly crashed into another vehicle, killing a man during a chase late Thursday night.

The suspect was traveling on W. Bellfort Avenue in a stolen vehicle after fleeing from officers just before 8 p.m.

Officers and a helicopter started a short pursuit of the stolen vehicle before it crashed into another car, making a U-turn, causing the driver to be ejected.

  • The driver, a Hispanic male in his 40s, succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.

    Police said the chase ended when the suspect’s vehicle struck a light pole and caught fire.

    Firefighters put out the flames and tried to pull the suspect out of the wreck, but he reportedly grabbed a gun from his waistband and fatally shot himself.

    Authorities said the ordeal lasted about two minutes. The suspect was described as a Black male in his mid-20s.
