A fireball plane crash is believed to have caused multiple fatalities after a private aircraft plummeted in a San Diego neighborhood, setting ablaze about 15 homes and “every car.”
Officials said the small plane hit a power line while landing in heavy fog, crashing into the military residential neighborhood of Murphy Canyon near Tierrasanta just before 4 a.m.
Local authorities said the plane directly hit about 15 homes and several vehicles when it exploded into a fireball.
“When it hit the street, as the jet fuel went down, it took out every single car that was on both sides of the street,” Assistant Fire Department Chief Dan Eddy said.
“You can see that every single car was burning down both sides of the street.”
While they continue their search for victims among an extensive debris field, officials confirmed that several passengers onboard the doomed jet have died.
“I can’t quite put words to describe what the scene looks like, but with the jet fuel going down the street, and everything on fire all at once, it was pretty horrific to see,” Police Chief Scott Wahl added.
