A Louisiana boy was struck and killed while trying to get on a school bus early Thursday, police said.
The crash occurred in the 1400 block of Desire Street in New Orleans just after 8 a.m. when the 6-year-old stepped out of a relative’s car.

The bus driver did not see the child when he fatally struck him. Family members later identified the boy as Mason Richards, a student at KIPP Public Charter Schools.
“Our thoughts are with his family and our entire school community during this incredibly difficult time,” officials said.
