NJ trooper fatally shoots dog; assaults fellow officer trying to calm him down

An active New Jersey state trooper was taken into custody after he allegedly shot his dog dead and assaulted an officer trying to apprehend him, police said.

The incident occurred at around midnight Thursday when residents of a Wayne condo complex reported hearing shots and a commotion.

  • Officers found Alexander Lark in the parking lot destroying a stop sign. They tried to calm him down, but he appeared to be under the influence of drugs.

    Lark reportedly shoved one of the officers before being detained. His dog was found dead inside his condo next to his Glock 43 service handgun.

    The eight-year department veteran now faces a slew of charges, including aggravated assault and resisting arrest, while animal cruelty charges are pending.
