Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk is expected to step back from his government position to return to the business world, Politico reported.
President Donald Trump reportedly told his Cabinet and inner circle about his joint decision with Musk, whose designation as a special government employee lasts until next month.
Trump said he is happy with Musk’s job within the Department of Government Efficiency despite the controversy that tainted many of his decisions, sending his Tesla sales to a three-year low.
Musk’s mass firings aimed to cut the size of the federal government but resulted in lawsuits against the Trump administration.
He also just endured a massive loss in Wisconsin’s Supreme Court race after spending $20 million on the Republican candidate.
A recent NBC News poll showed that 51% of voters nationwide viewed Musk negatively, while only 39% approved of his work.
