President Donald Trump made a rare move Sunday morning when he criticized his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, for his recent comments about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Putin called for a transitional government in Ukraine to reach a peace deal, noting that President Zelenskyy, whose term expired last year, has no legitimacy to represent his country and sign a deal.
Trump told NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he was “very angry” and “p***ed off” with Putin after he made comments that are “not going in the right direction.
“If Russia and I are unable to make a deal on stopping the bloodshed in Ukraine, and if I think it was Russia’s fault – which it might not be – but if I think it was Russia’s fault, I am going to put secondary tariffs on oil, on all oil coming out of Russia,” he said.
“That would be that if you buy oil from Russia, you can’t do business in the United States. There will be a 25% tariff on all oil, a 25 to 50-point tariff on all oil.”
Trump said that Putin is aware of his anger and that they have “a very good relationship” and “the anger dissipates quickly…if he does the right thing.”
