Speeding driver charged in fatal crash that killed 3 workers along Massachusetts highway

Three highway workers were fatally struck by a speeding vehicle while working on Interstate 91 in Massachusetts early Friday.

The crew from Premier Fencing Company was working to repair guardrails along the interstate at around 12:45 a.m. when they were struck by an SUV traveling at “a very high rate of speed.”

After hitting the three workers, the SUV flipped over and landed in the middle of the exit ramp. The driver got out of the wreckage and took off.

  • 29-year-old Balil Griffith was eventually located and arrested after a chase near Morgan Road in West Springfield.

    He was arraigned Friday on three counts of manslaughter and one count of leaving the scene of personal injury or death.

    The three victims were identified as Igor Costa, of Marlborough, and Ryan Almeida and Raul Bohorquez, of Brockton. All three were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
