Good Samaritan, 18, fatally struck while trying to help crash victim in Wyoming

A teen college student was fatally struck last weekend while helping an injured driver along a Wyoming highway, officials said.

18-year-old Riggin Cole Schaffer stopped to tend to the driver, who sustained injuries after a single car crash on Highway 130 in Laramie on Sunday.

While helping the driver, Schaffer was fatally struck by another vehicle.

  • The Good Samaritan was a student at WyoTech, where he was learning automobile collision repair, upholstery and painting.

    He planned to have his own restoration shop and work on old muscle vehicles, according to his obituary.

    “While his life was tragically short, it was lived to the fullest. His loved ones will miss his laugh, getting to hear his random thoughts, and watching him find his way in the world. They are grateful for every moment spent with him,” his family wrote.
