Two people were shot dead aboard a Miami bus when a driver opened fire following an argument early Sunday morning.
The incident on the Miami-Dade County Transit bus unfolded outside a shopping plaza at Miami Gardens Drive and Northwest Seventh Avenue.
Police responded to the shooting at around 3 a.m. and learned that the bus driver had gotten into an argument with the passengers before opening fire.
The two male victims were rushed by helicopter to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital in critical condition. They later succumbed to their injuries.
While the investigation is in its early stages, a spokesperson for the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation said that bus drivers aren’t allowed to use firearms while on duty.
“Transit operators are not allowed to be armed. This morning’s incident aboard a Metrobus remains under investigation, and the Department of Transportation and Public Works is fully cooperating with law enforcement.”
