A Maryland man has allegedly admitted to killing his grandmother after lying in wait inside her closet for several hours, police said.
Spencer Dillon Hamilton showed up at the Rockville City Police Station at around 8 a.m. Sunday and confessed to killing a family member.
Police found the 27-year-old man’s grandmother, Dr. Pauline Yvonne Titus-Dillon, deceased in her bathroom.
Hamilton reportedly told detectives that he attacked the 87-year-old woman sometime between 4 and 4:30 a.m. after emerging from her closet.
The suspect allegedly stabbed Titus-Dillon in the back, punched her face, and strangled her.
After the slaying, Hamilton tried to clean up the scene and stole the victim’s credit cards, phone, and laptop.
The victim was a retired internal medicine doctor at Howard University Hospital and a former associate dean at Howard Medical School.
“She was a brilliant woman. Just a great, great person,” friend Nicole Cutts said.
“She came up at a time when there were not a lot of women in medical schools.”
