A pregnant woman was brutally murdered and left in a shopping cart under piles of trash, Iowa authorities said.
51-year-old Donnie White was charged with first-degree murder in connection to the slaying of 38-year-old Brittany Hopkins.
Investigators believe White killed Hopkins with a hammer at his Cedar Rapids home on Feb. 27 before her body was discovered in a shopping cart the following morning.
Hopkins’s body was covered with a blanket and wrapped in black tape underneath several bags of trash. Her manner of death was ruled as a homicide.
Police obtained surveillance footage and witness’ information that led them to name White a person of interest in the case.
On March 14, White was located in Las Vegas and arrested with the help of the U.S. Marshals Nevada Violent Offender Task Force.
“U.S. Marshals approached the suspect shortly after 3 p.m. and White eventually surrendered to the Nevada Violent Offender Task Force.”
