A Louisiana mother has been charged with murder after she allegedly beat her infant son to death, police said.
Autumn Hano Harper, 24, was arrested following the death of her 8-month-old son who succumbed to his injuries on Monday.
The boy, identified by his father as Sterling Rogers, was brought to Riverside Medical Center last week with severe injuries including multiple bone fractures.
An autopsy showed signs of ongoing abuse, Franklinton Police Chief Justin Brown said, calling the case “absolutely heartbreaking.”
“You have a mother that has exhibited signs and admitted to the fact that she’s caused harm to her child. How could mental health not be involved,” Brown asked.
Harper was arrested and booked into the Washington Parish Jail on Wednesday.
“I think it’s probably one of the worst cases that I’ve ever experienced, that I’ve personally worked on in my career,” the police chief added.
