Pueblo news, Colorado news.

Three Pueblo Police officers were shot in an exchange of gunfire with a suspect who was later killed by police late Tuesday, authorities said.

Spokesperson Bianca Hicks said that what led to the incident remains under investigation after officers responded to reports of an officer shot in the area of Mesa Avenue and Cedar Street just before 7:15 p.m. Tuesday.

When officers and deputies with the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene, they “engaged a suspect, and additional shots were fired.”

“The suspect fled the area on foot and continued shooting at officers and they returned fire in response. The suspect was injured in the exchange of gunfire.”

The injured officers are in stable condition, Hicks said late Tuesday.

“We’re glad the community is safe from this very dangerous suspect who would impart that type of wounds on our officers and also put the community in danger,”

“We’re thankful that is no longer the case and that the injuries were not life-threatening.”
