Detroit hospital employee arrested after shooting coworker in parking garage

Authorities in Detroit arrested the gunman who opened fire in the parking garage of a local hospital wounding a coworker and forcing a tense lockdown early Thursday morning.

Gunfire erupted outside the Troy Corewell Health Beaumont Hospital at around 7 a.m.

Police said a hospital worker opened fire at a coworker, firing five shots, and injuring the 25-year-old man twice in the arm.

  • The shooting triggered an Emergency alert warning patients to “avoid the area and shelter in place” and placing the hospital in lockdown.

    Area schools sent parents messages about the shooting assuring them that children are “safe and secure.”

    “We have taken additional security measures, and our team is closely monitoring the situation in coordination with local authorities,” a Troy School District spokesperson said.

    The suspect was arrested at a home in Macomb Township, police said in an update.
