Mother faces charges for driving impaired; causing fatal crash that killed 2 children

A California mother is facing manslaughter charges after she allegedly drove while intoxicated and crashed killing her two children last weekend.

Yesica Barajas, 31, remains hospitalized after the Sunday morning crash that killed her children, 10-year-old Damian Montanez, and 9-year-old Aaliyah Montanez.

The California Highway Patrol said the suspect drove her black Nissan at a high rate of speed on Highway 29 in Napa before losing control and crashing into a tree.

  • “[Barajas] is currently undergoing medical treatment, once that’s been completed, we expected her to be booked on multiple felony charges,” CHP Sergeant Andrew Barclay said.

    “[We’re] looking at manslaughter charges. There’s a lot going into this. It will be [an] ongoing investigation.”

    “A tragic situation is made even more tragic [by] the fact that two young kids lost their lives due to the decision of someone else to drive impaired. That’s a hard thing to get past.”
