An infant was found dead inside a minivan earlier this week triggering an ongoing investigation, authorities in New Jersey said.
The baby was found unresponsive inside a minivan parked on Fifth Street between Monmouth and Princeton avenues at around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
EMS attempted life-saving measures on the child who was then transported to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood where he was pronounced dead.
The infant’s cause of death remains unclear. Investigators couldn’t specify whether the child suffered a medical episode or died from heat inside the locked vehicle.
The Toyota Sienna was initially cordoned off for several hours before it was towed away.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said that an investigation is ongoing.
