A Florida man was taken into custody after police found two deceased dogs hanging from a tree in his backyard over the weekend.
Salomon Cruz-Perez, 42, was arrested on two felony counts of aggravated animal cruelty resulting in death.
St. Lucie County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Cruz-Perez’s home over reports of a domestic incident and found the man and two deceased dogs in the yard.
“The dogs, a male and a female, were found suspended by their necks from a tree, bound with various ropes and chains,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
Cruz-Perez told deputies he owned the dogs but claimed the animals had likely tied themselves up.
Detectives determined the dogs “were bound around their necks with coaxial cable, paracord, tie-down straps, and chains.”
They also learned that Cruz-Perez had tried to have the two dogs euthanized weeks before the incident.
