President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed Tuesday to an “energy and infrastructure ceasefire” in Ukraine that will be in effect for 30 days during a two-hour call.
“The leaders agreed that the movement to peace will begin with energy and infrastructure ceasefire, as well as technical negotiations on implementation of a maritime ceasefire in the Black Sea, fill ceasefire and permanent peace,” the White House said.
“These negotiations will begin immediately in the Middle East.”
Putin told Trump that a permanent end to the war requires ending all military and intelligence assistance to Ukraine.
The two leaders also discussed improving bilateral relations between the US and Russia.
The call started at around 10 a.m. ET and concluded at noon. Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were present during the discussion.
