Two Texas sheriff’s deputies died by suicide within a few days of each other, authorities said.
Harris County Deputy Christina Kohler, 37, was found dead on March 13, a day after she was reported missing.
Investigators believe Kohler, who most recently worked as a court bailiff, died by suicide but autopsy results are pending.
Three days later, former Harris County Deputy Maria Vasquez died by suicide in Montgomery.
The 42-year-old had left her job in December.
“Heaven has gained two beautiful angels,” the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Community Engagement Division posted.
“May their memory be a blessing, inspiring strength and comfort to their friends, family, and coworkers during this challenging time.”
The deaths sparked concerns about mental health issues within the police force.
“Please, if you are struggling, reach out to someone, anyone. You are needed and you matter, even when you feel your lowest,” said HCSO Constable Sherman Eagleton.
“Our brothers and sisters in blue, take care of each other. Don’t carry the burden alone, your family is here for you.”
