An 18-year-old Florida man was taken into custody after he allegedly shot two people during a basketball game earlier this week, killing one.
Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the shooting at Plantation Park at around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and located two victims.
19-year-old Brian Jones suffered fatal injuries and died at a hospital. The second victim was listed in stable condition.
Investigators learned that a fight erupted during a basketball game, leading to the shooting.
“A basketball game should never lead to a senseless act of violence such as this,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister.
18-year-old Cabrera Morales was identified as the shooter and arrested the following day. He is facing murder and attempted murder charges.
“This arrest cannot undo the tragic loss of life, but I’m proud of our detective’s hard work in finding and arresting this individual quickly,” the sheriff added.
